History
The “Bauhof” in Kastelbell belonged from the 13th century onwards to the noble lords of Kastelbell, who exercised jurisdiction in the lower Vinschgau on behalf of the sovereign rulers, the Counts of Tyrol, up until the early 19th century. The Hotel Bauhof was formerly one of the farms that belonged to a large landowner (spiritual or temporal) and was managed by a tenant. These farms were devoted almost exclusively to the tilling of the land (the meaning of the name Bauhof relates to the cultivation of the fields), with the harvest intended for market; animal husbandry was simply for the farm’s own requirements.
