Biking
Bike paradise Venosta Valley
The Venosta Valley is no longer a secret when it comes to biking. People from all trails of life, leisure bikers to passionate bikers, have made it their mission to leave no inch of our area undiscovered. They simply love having a nice, relaxing ride or even having a go at demanding trails winding their way down from the top of our mountains.
Spring arrives a bit earlier in South Tyrol than anywhere else: the first bike excursions already start in March. The landscape during this time of year is marvellous: snow still sits atop the mountains and apple trees in full bloom cover the valleys as far as the eyes can see. Bikers who want to have a ride surrounded by peace and quiet can take the bike path in the Venosta valley, between Mals (1051 m) and Meran (325) downhill. You can easily reach the starting point by taking the Venosta Valley cable car located near the hotel.
Set your eyes on the historic town of Glurns right at the start of the bike path: welcome to the oldest and smallest town in South Tyrol. The trail continues, taking you across Schlanders, the capital of the valley, followed by Kastelbell. There are 150 km of bike trails running across the Venosta Valley, all set against the backdrop of unique landscapes, picturesque villages, countless castles from the Middle Ages and Roman churches.
You'll be spoilt for choice if you enjoy a bit more of a challenge at high altitude. Start from the Bauhof hotel and up you go, way up to some beautiful mountain trails with a panoramic view over the South Tyrol mountains and some exciting downhill trails.
